New Deer Rifle            Redneck   /    Back Home

Thanks to my boss Don for sending this one along!

First of all, as the proprietor of Weeville.com, I do NOT want to make any sort of social/political statement with this one.  The truth is, I know absolutely nothing about guns because I don't own any.  I just don't, not a part of my lifelong lifestyle.  Ignorant of gun-lore, I am.  Just by choice.  Don't need one, don't want one.  By simple choice.

That to say, I didn't understand this story and photo collection at all until I checked with some coworker "experts" who explained it.  This is not your typical "Hey y'all, watch THIS," redneck scenario.  But it is what happened when a guy quit thinking (as all of us rednecks are prone to do 100% of the time).

Background:  1.)  Big rifles are very powerful.  2.)  There is such a thing as a bore sight (?) that fits firmly into the barrel of your gun - it's a laser that aims at a spot such a distance away and you dial your precision gun scope into that spot for accuracy at that distance.  3.)  Older models screwed firmly into the barrel of your gun?  4.)  Newer models of the bore sight (?) are made in the exact shape of the particular shell for the gun, so you can chamber it, and nothing happens if you pull the trigger.  Editor's note- I can easily stand corrected on ANY of these facts, and await to do so (be corrected).

So, apparently the guy screwed one of the old bore sights into the barrel of his new hunting rifle and later fired a live round without removing the bore sight from the barrel.  The last pic is of the bore sight itself- somebody help me - does it screw in? -  is the silver part the end of the gun barrel itself?    Here goes:

Sighting in your expensive new deer rifle

1.     Shiny new, high-powered deer rifle.............. $1200.00

2.     Quality, high-powered scope........................ $  550.00

3.    Bore sighting device.................................... $  140.00

4.  Hospital Visit............................................... $ 4,893.00

5.    Forgetting to remove the bore sighting device prior to shooting?

                                               Priceless !
